The Good, The Bad, and The Verdict

THE GOOD:
-Great artwork
-Excellent atmosphere
-Very well-done fear triggers
-Highly suspenseful
-Good puzzles

THE BAD:
-Sadly short

THE VERDICT:
When I saw the 17+ rating on this piece, I was dubious; I've seen a lot of sickening, needlessly ultra-violent crap around here, and I was half-expecting this to be the same. However, I was WONDERFULLY, MAGNIFICENTLY surprised to find that the actual "gore" in here was simply a collection of bloody walls.

This is a good thing; gore only generates shock value & an "ick" response. Your game, however, uses suspense, surprise, and apprehension to produce FEAR, in all its true glory. I'm not afraid to admit that I got an electric jolt when I read... THAT wall. Then, when that... THING... Materialized to my left, I sat paralyzed for a few seconds, wondering, "what now? Is it going to do something? Should I touch it?" I stood spellbound at the window, waiting, just WAITING for something to happen. After the first, perfectly timed surprise, I was waiting again and again for something to happen, kept on the edge of my seat, just WAITING for something to kill me.

Your game brilliantly tricked my imagination, almost bleeding over into my real life. When I needed to write something down, I started looking around for a pen, but my eyes kept flicking back to the screen, half-expecting something to try and kill me the second my back was turned.

Speaking of writing, the puzzles in this game were excellent. Not ridiculously simple, but not hair-pullingly difficult, and totally logical, each one making perfect sense. Everything worked perfectly, the controls were intuitive, and the game was tightly programmed, with not a single bug to be seen.

In closing, this 5/5, 9-star submission is easily the greatest horror suspense game I've ever played on Newgrounds, and I've certainly played a few. I think your game can best be summed up as follows:

THIS IS MYST... AS WRITTEN BY STEVEN KING.

Sweet dreams.

The Good, The Bad, and The Verdict

THE GOOD:
-Strangely addicting
-Cute graphics
-Challenging

THE BAD:
-Music - such as it was - was really repetetive.
-A little "sticky" in places

THE VERDICT:
Nice, challenging game, with absolutely adorable baby birds. ^_^ On the other hand, the paddle had a tendency to "stick," that is, move jerkily, when quickly moved a large distance. Also, as I said, the music was just WAY too repetetive. Let me put it this way: it's a fun game, and worth trying out, but not something I'd come back to play again.
