Hm... Weird.

Well, it's not very good. Sorry, but I have to be honest, and it's not; there's little variation, and hardly any detectable melody. On the other hand, the sound itself has an interesting feel to it, almost like something from a 16-bit game, maybe on the Genesis.

I can't honestly give you higher than a 3/5, 5/10, but I don't know why this got rated as low as 0.25/5...

Um...

Actually, you CAN delete your tracks, if you look through your NG Account page.

Well, I don't want to be too harsh, because I don't think you're meaning any harm or trolling... But this is sort of like drawing a random scribble on a piece of paper, then hanging it in a gallery because it resembles a butterfly. :P

Basically: The NGAP (Audio Portal) isn't a place to just dump random bits & crap, any more than the NGFP (Flash Portal) is. The only difference between them is that the NGAP has no Blam filter.

Anyway, just don't upload any old piece of Sfx crap, okay?

You, girl...

... Have just earned yourself a spot on my NG Club Mix CD.

THIS is what I'm talking about. THIS is dance. THIS is club. At the risk of getting flamed, I am SICK AND TIRED of Trance/Rave/Techno and other hyperactive, high-frequency tunes being put in the Dance category. Give me something 140bpm or less, medium-loud, heavy bass with the odd high-pass sound, and THEN we'll talk DANCE.

Yep; THIS is a club mix. I can actually see myself listening to this in an actual club, either chillin' or breakin' down. This is perfect dance material. THIS...

Is DANCE.

OOH!!!

That's what I actually said, out loud, when this started. Right from the get-go: "OOH!" Plus, you actually made me sit up, right away, and I am NOT talking metaphorically.

I've listened to a lot of stuff here on the NGAP, enough to hear patterns forming. The same boring intro types, same general format: start low & slow, build, swish in a reverse cymbal, maybe throw in a pause, then hit the loudness & hope for a 5/5. SO cliché. Heck, I've even done it in my own early works.

This is total originality. KABOOM. Truly unique. You may say the "real start" is at 0:14, but I say the start is at 0:00. You really made me take notice, and I LIKE what I'm noticing here! My only wish is that it had been longer, but then, that probably would have started over-reaching the originality & variation.

So, my friend, you've earned yourself a 5/5, 10/10, and a DL. Excellent work!

Fredgy responds:

haha nice :p
great you like it so much :p
ye, if i make it any longer i think it would get repetitive or just too long maybe :p
thanks;)

Yeah... Not bad...

It got me tapping my foot, but that's about all. I do have to partly agree with akopa; it just seemed a little too mild. Not bad as a beginning, but it never really went anywhere. It's just missing that extra certain something. Sorry, I really can't get more specific than that, as I have no idea what to CALL that certain something. XD

Good... GOD...

This is incredible. Absolutely... Incredible. Dude, I almost cried listening to this. XD Seriously.

I don't really know what gives it the emotional power, but I suspect it's the voice/string combo in the background. At least I think it's a voice/string combo. Whatever. The ambient background sound is what gives it its full power.

This is a total happy ending/victory song to me. This tune says, "we've done it; we've done it! We WILL survive!"

Oh god yeah... This is what electronic music was invented for. *sniff*

Yes. Yes! YES!!!

This is EXCELLENT. THIS is emotive. THIS has feeling. This is amazing!

It has very... Professional feel about it. Background music for a tutorial, perhaps, or a better intro tune for WinXP. XD

Seriously though, I love this, and I think it's marvelous. Very easy-listening, unintrusive background music. Good material for a menu of some kind, like an options menu. Something to fill in the silence without demanding attention!

Bravo!

Hmm...

It's good. There's no denying it; it IS good. But it's not great. I like it a lot, but it's missing that special something that your better pieces have.

Let me put it this way: this tune makess good listening, but it really doesn't EVOKE anything in me. With the title and intro, I was frankly expecting something much more... MOVING. Emotionally moving. Like your recent Lion King remix.

So, like I said: I like it, and it's good, but it's not GREAT. It needs more... Feeling, perhaps?

BOOM :D

That's the best word for this: BOOM. Just BOOM. XD

Seriously though, this is great. And despite Player-03's opinion, I don't the start is slow at ALL. I've heard enough power techno mixes to know that when you hear something low and heavy like that, it's building. Building. BUILDING.

BOOM!!!

It's the high, thin, phased (they were phased, right?) vocals that do it for me, when offset by the big, crackling sawtooth bass. Pure genius. Excellent.

Speaking of vocals, I also have enormous respect for the lyrics in this. They're the kind of lyrics I always wanted to write, but could never get my head around; they make sense, but in a ARTISTIC sense, rather than a logical one. Which is why they work so much better; being non-literal, they spark the imagination, which in turn causes mental & emotional involvement with the song.

So BOOM. BOOM guys, just BOOM. X)

ApproachingNirvana responds:

Thanks for the review! We spent a lot of time on the percussion so it's good to hear some comments on that. The vocals had a bit of chorus on them (I believe). To be honest we ended up having somewhere about 80 different tracks on this song so everything is a bit jumbled in my mind.

Thank you for the comments on the lyrics. We try to write lyrics that are relatable but not necessarily cliche and stale. We've put a lot of effort into each of our song's lyrics and we're really proud of them.

BOOM indeed. Let us know if you know any DJs that'd be interested in spinning our stuff!

Thanks again.

Bvwaaw Bvwaaw Bvwaaw Bvwaaw... VWIPaww. VWIPaww.

I love this. I just love it. A great mix, totally pattern-oriented, but never seeming repetitive. Excellent, excellent work!

With regards to the bitrate & file limit: I find that even 128 KBps doesn't give a noticeable loss of quality, and to the average ear there's no difference at all. BUT, even if your file exceeds the 8MB limit, there's still a chance it'll get in. Just contact the NG staff. Lots of Flashes around here exceed the 10MB limit, because they're that good! This song would definitely get in, 8MB or not.

Looking forward to hearing future mixes! :D

DigitalPulse responds:

Yea, there isn't that much of a loss, but still, a loss is a loss ;p. And yea, I'll try that with my next submission if it exceeds. Thanks for the info.

Thanks for the review,

Digital Pulse
